  • Milk – 1 Litre
  • Makhana (Puffed Lotus Seeds) – ¼ Cups
  • Sugar – 2 Tbsp
  • Chopped Pistachios – 2 Tbsp
  • Chopped Almonds – 2 Tbsp
  • Green Cardamom Powder (optional) – 1 Tbsp

  • Pour milk in a deep vessel, break the makhanas into smaller pieces,
    add them to the milk and let it simmer for about 1 ½ to 2 hours without covering,
    till the milk boils down and the seeds are soft.
  • The next step is – add sugar and stir for a few minutes.
  • Then add Pistachios, Almonds, Cardamom Powder and stir well again.
  • Serve hot or cold, as you like.

  • You can cook Makhana on a low flame till they become crunchy and later on add cashews till they get Golden and keep them aside.
  • You can also add saffron for flavor and color.
  • You can also use fresh boiled milk.
  • Add sugar as per your taste requirement.
  • If you are planning to serve the Kheer cold, then remember that after chilling the Kheer’s consistency thickens a bit.
